REVIEW OF THE YAMAHA R15 V3.0

It was the year 2008 when we first heard the name R15. It was the year when the first generation of Yamaha R15 was launched. This motorcycle was a revolutionary machine.
The first generation was very uniquely designed according to that time.
This motorcycle has a good output figure according to a 150cc(145cc to be more specific) motorcycle. This motorcycle produced 17HP @8500 RPM and a 15Nm of torque @7500 RPM. Which was quite impressive figure from a 150cc motorcycle. This motorcycle went so much popular in some countries. Even in India after it was discontinued, Yamaha launched another R15 with the name R15S which had some minor changes in terms of looks.

Just 3 years later on 2011 we got an upgraded R15 namely R15 V2.0 .

This, so called V2.0 was more sharper, spottier and more unique than the first generation.
This motorcycle had a 149cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine producing upto 16.7HP @8500 RPM and same amount of torque as before. This whole engine was equipped with a 6 speed transmission setup.

And, finally on 2018 we first saw the latest generation of Yamaha R15 called as Yamaha R15 V3.0.
  • Overview Of Yamaha R15 V3.0:

This motorcycle was completely redesigned and was looking way much more Aggressive, sharper, spottier and track ready. The sitting position is way much more committed then the older generation.

This generation gets a single cylinder, liquid 155cc engine which produces 19 BHP @10,000 RPM and 14.7Nm(15Nm for Indian version) of torque @ 8500 RPM. This motorcycle is again equipped with a 6 speed transmission. In addition this motorcycle gets a slipper clutch, which makes clutch feel so soft and makes gear shifts so much smooth and VVA (Variable Value Actuation, activates at 7800 RPM) which gives a slight increase in performance of the engine without compromising the mileage of the motorcycle.
Yamaha R15 V3.0's instrument cluster has been fully redesigned which looks very eye catching, is easier to read and shows a lot more information than before.

This instrument cluster gets a speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel gauge, odometer, 2 trip meters, a gear position indicator, a shift light, a neutral light, engine overheating light, engine check light and an ABS light(only for the Indian version). In addition it also shows average fuel consumption and L/100km. That's a huge number of information right?

Now, talking about the ergonomics in this bike. The Yamaha R15 V3.0 has a very Aggressive sitting position, this bike is meant for short rides, track day, not for long rides. Even if you want to go for a long ride on this, you can but you have to take frequent breaks depending upon your will.

Now, let's go for handling and suspension. The Yamaha R15 V3.0. handles so well that you doesn't even feel it's weight while riding.
Talking about the suspension setup on this motorcycle, it gets a stiff suspension setup both at the front and at the rear. This setup is very good for Cornering but not good for long rides or daily commutes. We get a USD (telescopic suspension in Indian version) forks at the front and a mono shock absorber at the rear.

Now, coming to breaking. In this motorcycle breaking is done by 282mm disc at front and 220mm disc at the rear. The Indian version also gets dual channel ABS which makes braking even better.
  • Pros :
  1. Good build quality.
  2. Good looking.
  3. Reliable engine.
  4. Very good amount of performance.
  5. Good handling.
  • Cons:
  1. Uncomfortable sitting position.
  2. Low build quality (compared to older generations).
  3. No pillion comfort.
  • Conclusion:
Overall this motorcycle is a must buy motorcycle if you are looking for a bike  under 200CC. This motorcycle is best of both worlds, on one hand it's a track ready motorcycle on the other hand it can be used for daily commutes, as it got a 150cc engine.  This motorcycle is the best entry level motorcycle (if it's available in your country) and yes, VVA really does it's job, and at last if you are thinking about it's reliability then, Japanese bikes were, are and will be most reliable bikes in the world. So, if the sitting position of R15V3.0 is not an issue for you then, without wasting any time you should just go for this motorcycle. As the company says, this motorcycle will really REV YOUR HEART.
